15-18 Year Olds Eligible For Covid Vaccine, Booster Shots For Healthcare Workers, Senior And Infirm

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the government has decided to expand India's Covid-19 vaccination drive to include youth between 15 and 18 years old.

He further added that healthcare workers will also be eligible for booster shots. These changes to India's vaccination campaign will be effective January 3.

Those above 60 years of age with co-morbidities can also avail booster shots based on their doctor's recommendation, Modi said in a live address to the nation this evening. This will be available starting Jan. 10.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said 90% of eligible Indians have received the first shot.

He further added that the government will soon introduce nasal and DNA-based vaccines in India.

Covaxin Approved For Ages 12-18

Bharat Biotech's Covaxin has received emergency use approval for those aged between 12 and 18.

Bharat Biotech's statement said Covaxin is formulated uniquely such that the same dosage can be administered to adults and children.
