Honking Geese Welcome Biden From Basement: Campaign Update

(Bloomberg) -- Joe Biden emerged from his basement studio, as many Democrats have demanded, to do a livestream Monday near his garden. And he was almost drowned out by honking geese.

Even before Biden began to speak to an AAPI Victory Fund livestream, the honking of a Canada goose came across the video feed.

“You’re going to hear, there’s a pond on the other side of my property here, a lot of Canadian geese,” he said. “If you hear them honking away, they’re cheering, that’s what they’re about.”

The honks, an iPhone ringing and other birds chirping at times drowned out Biden as he praised Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders for working to fight the coronavirus epidemic. A Secret Service agent lingered in the distance for much of Biden’s talk -- possibly to try to scare the geese from getting any closer to his protectee.

“Our view right now may be limited by the backyard or the basement or the screens of devices but you’ll hope to see what I see. Because even though we’re separated physically and enduring difficult times, I give my word, I see a nation getting ready to come together,” he said.
