California Presidential Tax Transparency Law Challenged in Suit

(Bloomberg) -- California was sued in a bid to block a recent law requiring candidates participating in the state’s presidential primary to disclose their tax returns for the past five years.

The law barring candidates who don’t comply is unconstitutional, according to a complaint filed last week in Sacramento federal court by Judicial Watch, the Washington-based conservative watchdog group, on behalf of voters in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

If the law survives, it threatens to disqualify President Donald Trump from the 2020 ballot in the most populous state, as he has repeatedly refused to disclose his tax returns.
