BOE Bullying and Harassment Record to Be Considered by Lawmakers
(Bloomberg) -- U.K. lawmakers will question Bank of England officials about bullying and harassment at the central bank after it released data on the number of incidents in recent years, according to Treasury Committee Chair Nicky Morgan.
The BOE formally investigated 21 cases of staff bullying or harassing other staff from January 2014 through May 2018, it said in details published on its website in response to a Freedom of Information request.
It declined to disclose data requested for the periods from June 2009 -- when it started centrally collecting the figures -- to December 2013, and for June 2018, citing an exemption due to the numbers involved being less than 10. The number of staff at the BOE almost doubled between 2013 and 2018, according to the central bank. As of February, it employed 4,378 people.
“An increase in bullying and harassment cases at the Bank of England is concerning,” said Morgan, whose group oversees the central bank. “The Treasury Committee will no doubt look to get to the bottom of this when we next take evidence.”
The figures were first reported by the Press Association on Wednesday. The BOE wasn’t immediately available to comment.
