Biden Voters Are Far More Likely to Plan to Vote by Mail: Poll

Nearly half of Democratic nominee Joe Biden’s supporters plan to vote by mail in November, while only one in 10 supporters of President Donald Trump say the same, a poll shows.

In a Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll released Monday, voters backing Biden were more likely to say they will vote by mail and to trust the accuracy of the election count than those who backed Trump.

The poll comes amid renewed attacks by the president on mail-in voting, which he has claimed without evidence is rife with fraud and hurts Republican candidates.

Voting rights experts say the growing gap in partisan views on vote by mail could affect how the results are perceived on election night, since in-person ballots are typically tallied faster. That would mean results released earlier would favor Trump, but that advantage could decline as mail-in ballots were counted.

The poll also showed that 55% of Democrats are confident the election results will be counted accurately, but only 36% of Republicans felt the same.

The poll of 900 registered voters from around the country was conducted Aug. 9-12. The margin of error was 3.27 points.
