Divisive statements, violent protests and offensive hashtags have taken over discourse in the country since a deadly terrorist attack by Pakistan-based organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed killed 40 Indian Central Reserve Police Force personnel in Pulwama, Kashmir, last week.
Kashmiri students have been reportedly threatened across the country, and a sitting governor said he agrees with a call to boycott Kashmiri goods.
“What we have seen is not a wonderful sight so far,” said Yogendra Yadav, president of Swaraj India. “If you look at the media, there has been a lot of irresponsible talk. We have seen trolling of a kind that has sunk to unacceptable levels.”
