Andrew Giuliani, Son of Rudy, to Run for N.Y. Governor in 2022
(Bloomberg) -- Andrew Giuliani, the son of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, said he will run for governor in 2022.
The Republican, 35, who served as a White House aide to former President Donald Trump, announced his candidacy on Twitter and with a new website. The plans were confirmed by Heather McBride, a spokesperson for Giuliani.
“Together WE WILL bring New York back!” he tweeted.
Giuliani was born and raised in Manhattan, according to his campaign website. He is the only son of Rudy Giuliani, who served as mayor from 1994 to 2001 and is Trump’s personal lawyer. The former mayor also has a daughter, Caroline Giuliani, who has publicly disagreed with her father’s political views.
The announcement by Andrew Giuliani comes as Governor Andrew Cuomo, a third-term Democrat, faces investigations into allegations of sexual harassment, claims of a cover-up over nursing-home deaths, and questions about whether he used state resources to work on the book he wrote about his leadership during the coronavirus pandemic.
