As rains subsided in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, the evacuation of over 1,500 tourists still stranded in snow-marooned Lahaul-Spiti district continued on a war footing, IANS reported citing an official.

Early snowfall in the higher reaches and cloud bursts devastated large parts of the state between 22 to 24 September. Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti were the worst affected districts.

Meanwhile, after three days of continuous rainfall, most parts of Punjab and Haryana witnessed no rainfall on Wednesday.

  • At least 249 people were rescued by Border Roads Organisation on 25 September
  • Rescue operations for nearly 1,500 tourists are still undergoing
  • At least five deaths were reported from the states from Haryana and Punjab due to the rains

Kargil Rescues 60 Nepali Porters, 1 French Nationsl

Kargil district administration and Kargil District police rescued and airlifted around 60 Nepali porters including women and children and one French national on Saturday, ANI reported.

They were stranded near Lakhang in Kargil since 22 September due to heavy snowfall in the region.

Bikers, Tourists Stranded Due to Heavy Snowfall Rescued

Six bikers along with 20 tourists rescued in first sortie early morning today by Indian Air Force, ANI reported. They were stranded due to heavy snowfall at several locations near Chhattru and Chhota Dara.

Over 1,500 People Rescued in Himachal Pradesh

Around 1,547 people were rescued in Himachal Pradesh on 26 September, Manisha Nanda, Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue and Disaster Management) told ANI.

Nanda also added that 71 were rescued on Thursday, 27 September. Search operations from other areas in the state are still underway.

Around 300 Stranded People in Lahaul & Spiti Valley Rescued

Around 300 people stranded in various parts of Himachal Pradesh's Lahaul and Spiti district have been rescued and most of the 600 roads of the state reopened after being blocked following recent snowfall, PTI reported.

Around 200 people are still stranded there.
