Trump Administration Opposes Reunited Migrants Leaving Kids to Seek Asylum

(Bloomberg) -- The Trump administration says immigrant parents whose children were separated from them at the southern U.S. border and then reunited shouldn’t be allowed to leave their children behind to apply for political asylum even if the parents are targeted for deportation.

The U.S. made the argument in a court filing Tuesday as it fights with the American Civil Liberties Union over how to process deportations at the same time as officials are working against a Thursday deadline to reunite hundreds of families separated as part of President Donald Trump’s “zero tolerance” crackdown on illegal border crossings.
