Here Are Trump’s Contenders for Kennedy’s Supreme Court Seat

(Bloomberg) -- President Donald Trump said he has a list of about 25 contenders to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy.

Here they are:

Brett Kavanaugh: Judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and former law clerk to Kennedy.

Amy Coney Barrett: Judge on the Chicago-based 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The former law professor at the University of Notre Dame has been questioned by Democrats over the role her Catholic faith would play on the bench.

Kevin Newsom: Judge on the Atlanta-based 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The former solicitor general of Alabama was previously a clerk for Justice David Souter, a liberal who retired from the Supreme Court in 2009.

Britt Grant: Justice on the Georgia Supreme Court. The former solicitor general of Georgia previously clerked for Kavanaugh on the D.C. Circuit.

William Pryor: Judge on the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, whose nomination by President George W. Bush to a federal appeals court sparked a two-year partisan battle before his confirmation in 2005.

Don Willett: Judge on the New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, perhaps best known for his colorful postings on Twitter, including one that said, "Who would the Donald Name to #SCOTUS? The mind reels. *weeps—can’t finish tweet*"

Allison Eid: Judge on the Denver-based 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The former justice on the Colorado Supreme Court was nominated last year by Trump to fill the seat vacated by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch.

Patrick Wyrick: Justice on the Oklahoma Supreme Court.

Mike Lee: Republican Senator from Utah known for his libertarian leaning.

Timothy Tymkovich: Chief judge for the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Margaret A. Ryan: Judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces.

Edward Mansfield: Justice on the Iowa Supreme Court.

Keith Blackwell: Associate justice on the Georgia Supreme Court.

Charles Canady: Justice on the Florida Supreme Court.

Amul Thapar: Judge on the Cincinnati-based 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Federico Moreno: Judge on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

Steven Colloton: Judge on the St. Louis-based 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Iowa.

Raymond Gruender: Judge on the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Missouri.

Thomas Hardiman: Judge on the Philadelphia-based 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Raymond Kethledge: Judge on the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Diane Sykes: Judge on the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Joan Larsen: Judge on the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and former justice of the Michigan Supreme Court.

Thomas Lee: Associate chief justice on the Utah Supreme Court.

David Stras: Judge on the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and former associate justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court.

Robert Young: Retired justice on the Michigan Supreme Court.
