BJP Sweeps Tripura, To Share Power In Nagaland, Still With A Chance In Meghalaya
Here’s all you need to know about Northeast election results.
The Bharatiya Janata Party unseated the Left from its last bastion in Tripura and was set to join the government in Nagaland as the party continued its winning streak in the Northeast.
The Congress which emerged as the single-largest party in Meghalaya with 21 seats, has now staked claim to forming the government in the state. The party is short of the half-way mark of 30, giving the BJP which won two seats a possible shot at power as a junior partner with National People's Party that won 19. The party will now be in power in six out of seven states in the Northeast.
“It is a journey from no one to number one, from 'shoonya to shikhar' (zero to pinnacle),” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said addressing BJP workers at the newly built party headquarters in the national capital after the results. He called party President Amit Shah as the architect of the victory.
