Pence Is Said to Ask Egypt, Jordan to Reach Out to Palestinians

(Bloomberg) -- Vice President Mike Pence asked Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and King Abdullah of Jordan to reach out to Palestinian Authority leaders on behalf of the U.S., a person familiar with the matter said.

Pence, who’s traveling in the region, asked to the two leaders this weekend to tell the Palestinians that the U.S. is interested in restarting direct talks, the person said.

The Palestinians canceled planned meetings with Pence during his trip after President Donald Trump declared in December that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and that the U.S. would move its embassy there.
