Zanu-PF Backs Mnangagwa as 2018 Zimbabwe Presidential Candidate

(Bloomberg) -- Zimbabwe’s ruling party has endorsed President Emmerson Mnangagwa as its candidate for next year’s general elections.

Delegates at a congress of the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front on Friday the capital, Harare, also approved the expulsion of former President Robert Mugabe’s wife, Grace Mugabe, from the party, according to resolutions read out by Patrick Chinamasa, Zanu-PF’s secretary for legal affairs and the nation’s finance minister.

Mnangagwa was sworn in as president last month following 93-year-old Mugabe’s decision to quit amid an army-led coup, ending his almost four-decade rule of the southern African nation.
