Rep. Waters Pushes for Deutsche Bank Trump-Linked Russia Probe
(Bloomberg) -- Representative Maxine Waters, expressing concern that a U.S. inquiry into Deutsche Bank AG’s $10 billion mirror trading scheme has "gone dormant," asked the Justice Department for an update.
In a letter to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, Waters noted that Jeff Sessions, the Attorney General, hasn’t recused himself from involvement in the probe, even though he took that step with the FBI investigation of Russian meddling in last year’s election.
“Given Attorney General Sessions’s refusal to recuse himself from the investigation and the apparent delay by the Department to take action against the bank, I write to request your assurances that the investigation is being carried out to the fullest extent of the law, free from interference, and that it remains a priority for the department,” Waters wrote in a letter to Rosenstein.
Waters, a California Democrat, also asked whether President Donald Trump, Sessions, or any other White House official or Trump family member had inquired or sought to influence the probe. She asked that the Justice Department respond by Dec. 15.
Waters, the ranking member of the House Committee on Financial Services, has failed in previous attempts this year to get the Republican-led committee, as well as Deutsche Bank, to respond to her requests for more information about the bank’s relationship with President Trump.
