‘Become A Student Of India’s Diversity,’ Prime Minister Modi On Mann Ki Baat

On the third anniversary of his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ initiative, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed on the importance of experiencing the diversity of the country though tourism.

Let us become a student to know the value of India. There will be value addition to our travel when we are students.

He cited examples of great leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, Lokmanya Tilak and Swami Vivekananda, who had one thing in common - “when they traveled through India, they tried to understand the spirit of India”.

Prime Minister Modi urged citizens to draw inspiration from these leaders in his address to the nation, and travel like a student of India’s diversity. He requested them to share their experiences with #incredibleindia on social media.

As October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, draws near Modi re-emphasised two things close to Gandhi- cleanliness and Khadi.

Let us light a diya in the houses of the poor by encouraging Khadi.

He cited an example of a khadi ashram that was lying defunct for the last 26 years and has now come back to life because of the government’s khadi initiative.

He also narrated a story about Bilal Dar, an 18-year old from Srinagar, who has been made a cleanliness ambassador by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation to laud his work in the space.

While signing off, Modi made a special mention of two brave women, Lt. Swati and Lt. Nidhi, both widows of ex-army men. These women have joined the Indian army in honour of their late husbands.
