U.K. Ministers Quaffed English Wine as Nation Debated Brexit

(Bloomberg) -- Cheers! British ministers drank English wine at nearly half of their official dinners last year.

Statistics released by the U.K. Foreign Office in London Wednesday show government spending totaled 45,042 pounds ($45,000) on boozy events, although overall drinking fell by 12 percent in 2016-17 due to fewer government events, especially during the period of the European Union referendum where the country voted to leave the bloc.

English wines accounted for 49 percent of purchases.
