The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has released an advisory asking Mumbaikars not to leave their workplaces or homes untill the situation normalises.
- Five areas have received more than 200 mm of rainfall, the BMC said.
- Heavy wind has made the sea "very rough" due to which the water is not receding.
- 30,000 BMC workers are on duty.
The city is expected to reach normalcy by 10:30 p.m, BMC said at the press conference.
Your Travel Update From The Traffic Control Room

Mumbai's Transport System Takes A Hit
Mumbai’s lifeline - the local trains - also came to halt in certain areas after rainwater flooded the railway tracks. Cars, bikes and buses stand the chance of being submerged in the low-lying areas of the city. Airplanes flying into or out of Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport faced adverse weather and heavy airport traffic.
Heavy Rainfall Brings Mumbai To A Halt
Torrential downpour threatened to cripple Mumbai on Tuesday afternoon, as water began to flood many low-lying areas. The city is expected to receive “heavy to very heavy” rains in the next 24 hours, the Met department told BloombergQuint over the phone.
Responding to messages of a cloudburst doing the rounds on social media, Hosalikar said that Tuesday’s heavy shower is due to a weather phenomenon over south-west Madhya Pradesh which is likely to intensify into a depression. “The depression moving westwards is likely to cross Gujarat by August 31.”
The weather department has also predicted heavy to very heavy rains over North Konkan and Gujarat over the next 24 hours.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation warned of high tide at 4:48 p.m. on Tuesday. The rain water is expected to recede afterthe high tide wades.
