Apollo Hospitals on Sunday dispelled rumours about Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s treatment and announced that she didn’t need to be taken to Singapore for further treatment.

She’s back on a normal diet, said Subbiah Vishwanathan, COO of the hospital. She has been advised rest and will be discharged in a “few days,” he added.

Vishwanathan said she was responding well to her treatment and emphasised that all rumours regarding her health and that she is to be taken abroad for treatment are “false and baseless”.

Jayalalithaa was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Chennai at around 11 pm on Thursday, and the party too denied all rumours of her being taken to Singapore.

A medical bulletin released by the hospital in the early hours of Friday said:

“The honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu was admitted to Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, with fever and dehydration. The honourable madam is stable and under observation.”

Rumours and reports of Jayalalithaa’s ill health have been doing the rounds for several months. She even filed a defamation case against web portal rediff.com for its article, “Chennai media knew Jayalalithaa’s health is not fine, but kept mum.”

A prominent Twitter handle said she may be flying as early as Saturday evening. However, speaking to ANI, AIADMK spokesperson and actress CR Saraswathi said, “the news is false, Amma is very well. Her fever has come down.”

Meanwhile, Amma supporters have been camping outside the hospital, praying for  her recovery. On Friday, at the gathering outside the hospital, party workers claimed that they had never seen their leader unwell or being admitted to the hospital.

We fully believe that she will recover and come out of the hospital soon. She has given cycles and laptops to the students, she has started Amma Unavagam (a subsidised food programme) for us, and so nothing will happen to her. No harm will come to her.

The 68-year-old Chief Minister suffers from diabetes, cellulitis, hypertension and other ailments. This was disclosed by her legal counsel in her bail plea at the Karnataka High Court in 2014 following her conviction in the disproportionate assets case.

Jayalalithaa’s last public appearance was on Wednesday, when she inaugurated the metro rail service from Chennai Airport to Little Mount via video conference in the presence of Union Ministers Venkaiah Naidu and Pon Radhakrishnan.
