The ongoing tussle within the Samajwadi Party is out in the open. It’s Netaji’s son Akhilesh versus Netaji’s brother Shivpal Yadav. No wonder then that Rahul Gandhi took a dig at the embattled family that heads the Samajwadi Party in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh.
The Congress Vice President, during the course of his Khat Sabha on Wednesday, said Akhilesh should have repaired the “cycle” – the SP’s election symbol – four-and-a-half years back. The other highlight of Rahul’s sabha, of course, was the embarrassment over the missing khats.
Rahul was apparently referring to Akhilesh’s action of sacking two ministers on graft charges and shunting out the chief secretary, known for his closeness to senior cabinet minister and uncle Shivpal Yadav.
His barb came against the backdrop of the BJP’s charge that Rahul was more vitriolic in his attack on the saffron party compared to the SP and that there was a bonhomie between Rahul and Akhilesh – with the latter describing Rahul as “achha ladka”.
