BQPortfolio speaks to citizens from across India about their financial goals and helps them access expert advice on how to achieve them.

Suraj Uchil, 29, wants to be a restaurateur. “It’s in my blood,” he said.

The thing is, Uchil’s mother wants him to prioritise buying a house before he gets married and starts his own family. Uchil anticipates that he will need at least Rs 15 lakh by 2025 for the down payment for the house he has identified. Alternatively, he can use this amount as seed capital to either start a small restaurant or cafe.

But Uchil’s caught in two minds—he’s already running one enterprise as a photographer and is unsure whether taking up another capital-intensive business will be possible.

On this episode of BQ Portfolio, Gautam Kalia, head (investment solutions) at Sharekhan, tells Uchil how to save money and then talks about which of his two dreams he should pursue.
