It’s safe to say that most of your financial needs can be met by investments that you make in India. But there are distinct advantages, especially in some specific situations, to making investments abroad.

Buying equity directly in the U.S. or other developed markers would require an international brokerage account, which may also need a sizable deposit, according to Amol Joshi, founder at Planrupee Investments. A more easily available option is to invest in mutual fund schemes that are floated by asset management companies in India, and which invest in assets abroad.
