Smartphone maker OPPO established itself as the master of selfies after last year’s F5 launch, when it introduced Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based intuitive technology that recognised and enhanced a person's physical details to enable perfect selfies. Now, leaks reveal that on March 26, OPPO India will be taking a giant step forward by releasing the OPPO F7—featuring second-generation AI-based selfie photography tech, through a world-leading 25 MP front camera.

When combined with a 6.23-inch HD 'super full screen 2.0' display (1080x2280 pixels) that boasts of a 19:9 aspect ratio and an impressive 89.09 percent screen-to-body ratio, the specs do look impressive on paper.

From advance renderings, what the ultra-slim and precision-engineered OPPO F7 eschews on the outside, it makes up for internally. And going by OPPO’s traditionally competitive pricing, the F7 may be priced as a mid-price smartphone packed with high-end features that allow it to go head-to-head with expensive Android smartphones. OPPO seems to be looking to place the F7 in the ideal smartphone sweet spot—one that's perfect for photography, manages the technical complexities of gaming and delivers a great video experience.

The standout feature of the OPPO F7 should be the 25-megapixel AI-powered front selfie camera with real-time HDR—the first in the world. The F7's second-generation AI recognition can sense 296 positioning spots, so users will never need to find the right angle for selfies again. The depth of field is reportedly unseen in smartphones till date.

The camera sensor is reportedly calibrated to take perfect 'AI selfies'—shots will look effortless and natural thanks to AI technology that can distinguish between different skin tones, ages and genders. AI Beauty Technology 2.0 extends this capability beyond a user's face to the arms and neck, so there's no need to retake selfies. This also applies to group selfies, where the F7’s self-learning technology reportedly remembers each face and beautification features applied in a group photo. The AI impact doesn’t end with clicks. An AI Album feature recognises and automatically sorts photos based on who’s in them.

From unconfirmed pictures of the new device, the super full screen display comes with a notch and is devoid of physical buttons, making it very similar to the iPhone X. And while the iPhone X has only facial unlock, the OPPO F7 features facial unlock and a fingerprint sensor. Running ColorOS 5.0 (based on Android 8.1 Oreo), users can move between apps using hands-free gestures. The F7 supposedly not only utilises AI for better selfies but also reportedly makes use of AI in smartphone systems management for processing and power efficiency, details of which should be revealed on March 26.

The formal invite from OPPO says the F7 will be unveiled by leading Indian cricketers. We guess this also means there might be some cricket-themed AR stickers on offer. There are also rumours that the F7 will come in silver and red options and multiple storage options.

We are waiting to get our hands on the OPPO F7 to try out its reported world's best selfie capabilities and the display—stay tuned for the review as soon as we get the OPPO F7.
