What Does Mario Draghi Want for Christmas? A Blockchain Expert

(Bloomberg) -- Are you a woman into blockchain or artificial intelligence? The European Central Bank may just be the place for you.

In a job posting on its website on Thursday, the ECB said it was looking to hire a specialist in distributed ledger technologies for its infrastructure and payments division. Being female would be a plus.

“The position offers you excellent opportunities to study new technologies like DLT and AI in a dynamic environment and to explore the opportunities and challenges deriving from new technologies from a central bank perspective.”

The ECB has been looking for ways to harness the new technology. President Mario Draghi said in May the central bank was closely watching blockchain innovation to ensure that its adoption around the euro area doesn’t fragment payment systems. A joint study with Bank of Japan released in September found that a DLT application could match the speed of current systems in processing payments.

The contract is for one year with a possible extension. It pays roughly the equivalent of an 80,000 euros ($95,000) a year, with the net salary starting from 3,961 euros per month plus benefits.
