Vietnam’s Virus Cases Rise to 464 as Hanoi Bars Big Groups

Vietnam Reports 9 New Virus Cases as Hanoi Bars Big Gatherings

Vietnam’s health ministry reported 5 new cases of the novel coronavirus on Thursday afternoon, taking the total to 464, as the leaders of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City suspended gatherings of more than 30 people in public places.

The fresh cases reported in the afternoon were in Quang Nam province involving people who had been to a hospital in Danang to take care of family members, according to the report.

Leaders in the nation’s capital, worried that a new cluster in Danang will spread to Hanoi, ordered bars to close and suspended religious and cultural gatherings as well as other large events, the city said on its website. Hanoi authorities are also conducting tests for the virus through Saturday on more than 21,000 people returning to the city from Danang.

Ho Chi Minh ordered the suspension of festivals, conferences, operation of bars and dancing clubs as it banned the gathering of more than 30 people in public places except for schools and hospitals, starting July 31, Tuoi Tre newspaper reported on its website.

Vietnam reported its first community infections in more than three months over the weekend in Danang.
