Univision, Televisa Executive Who Unified Programming Steps Down

(Bloomberg) -- Isaac Lee, the executive who unified the programming at Spanish-broadcasting giants Univision Communications Inc. and Grupo Televisa SAB, is stepping down from his role of content chief for both companies.

Lee decided to resign after “successfully completing the mandate of aligning the content operations,” Univision said in a statement. “Lee created and led a joint task force between UCI and Televisa that has generated a rich pipeline of diverse and fresh content to compete more effectively in a highly competitive media marketplace.”

Lee took over as head of content in early 2017 and spearheaded the companies’ programming strategy to boost viewership. He replaced several Televisa executives and introduced methods common in the U.S. to learn what viewers want.

For instance, Televisa started testing shows on social media before they aired on TV, creating focus groups and hiring consultants to ask viewers if they’re interested in particular story lines. It also began promoting shows more often on other Televisa-owned platforms like radio and magazines.
