U.S. Denies Reports of Iranian-Americans Detained at Border

(Bloomberg) -- Reports of Iranian-Americans being detained or refused entry into the U.S. because of their country of origin are false, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a tweet.

  • Authority says reports that the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs and Border Protection have issued a related directive are also false.
  • Comments come after Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a Washington state Democrat, tweeted about reports that Iranian-Americans, including U.S. citizens, were being detained at the Canadian border; “My office has been working on this all morning,” she said
    • Council on American-Islamic Relations’ Washington state chapter says it’s assisting more than 60 Iranians and Iranian-Americans, some detained and questioned for hours about their political views and allegiances when crossing from Canada into the U.S.
