U.K. New Coronavirus Deaths Slow For Second Consecutive Day

(Bloomberg) -- The U.K. reported a further 439 deaths from the coronavirus, a second day of decline following a daily high of 708 reported on Saturday, according to figures from the Department of Health and Social Care.

The figures show an additional 3,802 positive cases of coronavirus, crossing the 50,000 threshold in total. Overall data excludes Northern Ireland.

Some 208,837 people have been tested for the disease in the U.K., with 13,069 tests conducted on April 5. The U.K. hopes to accelerate testing to 100,000 a day by the end of April.

Today’s figures come a day after Prime Minister Boris Johnson was admitted to the hospital for precautionary tests, following a 10-day battle with the disease. He remains in charge of the government, his office said.
