U.K. Government to End Lock-Ins for Release of Economic Data

(Bloomberg) --

The U.K. Office for National Statistics says it will stop releasing economic data via press lock-ins as a result of the coronavirus lockdown.

Market sensitive reports will now be released live at 7 a.m. London time, rather than at the usual time of 9:30 a.m., the ONS said in a statement Tuesday. All other statistics will be published at 9:30 a.m.

“The developing Covid-19 pandemic make the continuation of secure briefings no longer possible,” the statement said.

The first data released under the new system will come on Wednesday, with the publication of February’s inflation figures. The Bank of England made a similar move last week.
