U.K. Hospitality Expects Bookings Plunge of 40-50% Amid Pandemic

The hospitality trade association expects bookings to decline in hotels, food and beverage as a result of social distancing and working from home, CEO says in a letter addressed to prime minister seen by Bloomberg.

  • “We believe that urgent Government action is needed to support the sector” and wider economy” says letter signed by trade group’s CEO, Kate Nicholls
    • Seeks temporary tax rate concessions, loans, a pause on “immigration proposals which are consuming business bandwidth and causing uncertainty”
  • Hotel occupancy down 15% in the first quarter
  • Eating and drinking out have declined by about 7% in 1Q
