U.K. Daily Coronavirus Deaths Drop to 616, Lower for Second Day

(Bloomberg) --

A further 616 people died from coronavirus in U.K. hospitals, the latest figures show, the second day in a row the number has decreased.

Some 4,583 more people tested positive for the disease, lower than the five-day average daily increase of 5,386, according to Bloomberg calculations.

On April 22, 23,560 more tests were carried out, still short of the country’s full capacity of about 40,000 and its target of 100,000 tests a day by the end of April.

Daily figures reported by the Department of Health are for the day that deaths are recorded not for the day they occurred. They only include coronavirus patients who die in a hospital.

The data is released as ministers are set to decide whether to recommend the use of masks or face coverings in public, and the U.K. said 20,000 homes will be surveyed in a mass study to track the spread of the virus.
