Kuwait, U.A.E. Have Highest Daily Jump in Covid-19 Cases in Gulf

(Bloomberg) -- Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait reported their biggest daily increases in coronavirus cases on Sunday as new infections remained above thousand for the third-day running in Qatar.

Kuwait has imposed a 20-day curfew starting Sunday to contain the spread of the virus.

Sunday Numbers:

  • Saudi Arabia: 1,912 cases

    • Total 39,048, including 246 deaths
  • Qatar: 1,189 cases

    • Total 22,520, including 14 deaths
  • Kuwait: 1,065 cases

    • Total 8,688, including 58 deaths
  • U.A.E.: 781 cases

    • Total 18,198, including 198 deaths
  • Coronavirus Tracker: Global Cases 4.06 Million; Deaths 281,186

Countries and cities in the Middle East have imposed varying degrees of restrictions on people’s movement. Dubai, whose population comprises about 90% foreigners, last month eased a 24-hour lockdown after almost three weeks. Kuwait imposed a full curfew starting May 10 for 20 days to contain the spread of the virus.

Iran has the biggest number of confirmed cases in the Middle East with over 107,000 cases and 6,640 deaths.
