(Bloomberg) -- Two people died and at least 15 were injured, some seriously, when a vehicle drove into a pedestrianized zone in the center of Trier, according to the mayor of the western German city.
Mayor Wolfram Leibe said the casualties had been caused by a “maniac driver,” and Trier police said a person had been detained and the vehicle seized.
Investigations are continuing and authorities warned the public to avoid the area.
