Trump Lobs Fresh Suit at Pennsylvania After Biden Win

Trump Sues to Block Pennsylvania From Certifying Election Result

President Donald Trump’s campaign sued to block Pennsylvania from certifying the result of last week’s election, claiming a variety of alleged voting irregularities justifies keeping the winner of the contest up in the air while the case proceeds.

Pennsylvania should only be allowed to certify the result if the state doesn’t count potentially hundreds of thousands of mail-in or absentee ballots where Republicans were allegedly prevented from observing the canvassing process, the campaign said in a federal lawsuit filed Monday evening.

The suit is the latest effort by Trump’s campaign and national Republicans to cast doubt on the outcome of an election in which his Democratic challenger Joe Biden’s has been declared the winner. Despite numerous allegations of wrongdoing being made by the GOP in swing states across the country, Trump’s campaign has struggled to produce any evidence.

Even so, Trump’s campaign observers claim in the lawsuit that they weren’t given sufficient access to the ballot counting process as required under Pennsylvania law, particularly in Philadelphia, while several counties are accused of improperly allowing voters to fix errors with their ballots.

“This is the latest meritless lawsuit to challenge Pennsylvania’s election, which was overseen by bipartisan election officials and was lawful, fair and secure,” Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro said in a statement. “For months, the vast majority of these lawsuits have been dismissed and found to have no merit by Courts at all levels, and this one is no different.”

The case is Donald J. Trump for President v. Boockvar, 4:20-cv-02078, U.S. District Court, Middle District of Pennsylvania (Williamsport).
