Tokopedia Probes Data Theft Attempt After Report on Breach

(Bloomberg) -- Indonesian e-commerce platform PT Tokopedia uncovered an attempt to steal data from its users as a report from a monitoring service said 15 million customers could be affected.

The company is investigating the situation and underscored that crucial information such as passwords remain safe, spokeswoman Nuraini Razak said in a statement.

The probe comes as monitoring service Under the Breach said in a Twitter post that as many as 15 million of the platform’s users could be affected by a hack.

The e-commerce marketplace backed by SoftBank Vision Fund and Alibaba Group Holding Ltd., has been planning to go public within three years, Nikkei reported earlier this year. It has also been in talks on raising $1 billion to $1.5 billion in pre-IPO funding.
