Tiger Woods Is Just Trump's Eighth Medal of Freedom Recipient

(Bloomberg) -- The date is set. Tiger Woods will be honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom on May 6.

President Donald Trump was quick to congratulate Woods following his win last month at the Masters by, how else, a tweet in which he announced that the golfer would receive the award.

Woods, who has designed a Trump branded golf course in Dubai, is only the eighth person to be so honored by Trump. Senator Orrin Hatch, baseball legend Babe Ruth and Miriam Adelson, wife of billionaire Republican donor Sheldon Adelson, were some of the previous recipients named by the 45th president.

Trump is going to have to hurry up if he wants to catch his predecessors. President Barack Obama averaged more than 14 honorees per year during his presidency while presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton each averaged about 10 a year.
