Tiger-Phil Golf Rematch to Test Waters for Live Sporting Events

(Bloomberg) -- Golf icons Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are reuniting for a follow-up to their head-to-head showdown, this time alongside quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, an event that could serve as a key test for how the sports world adapts to the pandemic.

The two-on-two competition will take place some time next month, according to Turner Sports, meaning it will be one of the first major events to occur following the shutdown of the U.S. sports calendar. The match will be televised live on TNT, with specific times and location to be announced at a later date.

Keeping the competitors and production crew safe during filming will be one of the major challenges. It’s also likely that the two golfers will need permission from the PGA Tour to participate.

Mickelson and Woods went head-to-head for $9 million in a pay-per-view match in November 2018. This year’s event will have a fund-raising component to benefit Covid-19 relief.
