This Is How To Analyze A Marijuana Stock

Every week, hosts Joe Weisenthal and Tracy Alloway take you on a not-so-random walk through hot topics in markets, finance and economics.

Marijuana stocks have been on a tear, as investors bet on the explosion of a brand new, legalizing market. But beyond the obvious big picture story, how should investors actually go about trying to figure out which companies are well run and in a position to profit from this market? On this week's Odd Lots podcast, we talk to Craig Wiggins, who is part of a trio of amateur stock analysts known as "The Cannalysts." The Cannalysts have their own podcast, Reddit page, and soon conferences which have won them a loyal following for their incredibly granular understanding and analysis of Canadian marijuana companies. Wiggins explains to us how the market will work, how to assess if a company is in a good position, and how to understand the financial statements of marijuana companies, which have some very specific and difficult-to-understand idiosyncrasies.
