There's an Easier Way to Change Careers

Many of us desperately want to change careers. Others are forced onto different professional paths because jobs in their field are going to robots.  But we mostly assume we’d have to go in for training to take up new skills, and/or take a huge pay cut to start over in another field. There might be a better way.

This week on the Game Plan podcast, Francesca and Rebecca look at the skills-based approach to job switching; a way to assess what unrelated jobs may be unexpectedly similar to yours, based on the skills they require. We talk to Claire Cain Miller, a New York Times reporter who embarked on a major data study to cross-reference thousands of skills and jobs, about the surprises and insights in what she found.
