Swedish Police Arrest Man After 7 Wounded in Knife Attack
(Bloomberg) -- A man in his 20s has been arrested by Swedish police after he attacked seven people in a town south of the capital Stockholm.
Police reports from Vetlanda said the man was shot by officers and taken to a hospital, where he’s now being treated for his injuries. Though police said late on Wednesday there might be grounds to treat the case as an act of terror, they’ve since decided to investigate the attack as an attempted homicide, prosecutor Adam Rullman told the TT news agency on Thursday.
“If further information should surface, we may look at how to define the suspicions again, but currently, the suspect is held for attempted murder,” Rullman told TT.
Prime Minister Stefan Lofven condemned the attack. “I am thinking of those who were injured in Vetlanda and their relatives,” he said on social media. He said police had described the assailant as a lone perpetrator with a knife. Three of the victims are currently in a critical condition.
