Super Bowl Sending Miami Hotel Prices Surging in Busy February

(Bloomberg) -- The Super Bowl is sending hotel prices in Miami through the roof.

The game, scheduled for Feb. 2 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, is adding to the demand in what is always a peak month in South Florida.

The average daily rate for Super Bowl weekend could jump as high as $540, according to projections from lodging data provider STR. That compares with $313 in Atlanta last year and $354 in Minneapolis in 2018. Room rates averaged $331 in 2010, the last time the Super Bowl was in Miami, though that game was held in the wake of a recession.

With the Super Bowl about two months away, some luxury hotels in South Beach are asking more than $3,000 a night, according to Google Travel. Rates at less luxurious hotels are approaching $1,000.

“In February, you already have to be ready to spend serious money to get a hotel room in Miami,” said Blake Reiter, director of custom forecasts at STR. “Add the Super Bowl and it becomes that much more of a hot ticket.”
