California Facing More Blackouts as Wind Rekindles Risk of Fires

Southern California Faces More Blackouts Due to Fire Risk

Edison International’s Southern California Edison utility is warning again that it may need to cut electricity to residents to prevent power lines from sparking wildfires during violent winds.

As many as 45,000 homes and businesses in five counties could lose power, according to the company’s website. The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory from noon Thursday through 1 a.m. local time Friday for the mountains east and north of Los Angles.

Dry winds will sweep across Southern California, where there’s an elevated fire-weather risk Friday around Los Angeles and south to San Diego, the U.S. Storm Prediction Center said.
