Slower South African Growth Is Likely to Prove Fleeting

(Bloomberg) -- The slowdown in South African growth at the end of last year is likely to prove fleeting, according to Bloomberg Economics. BE expects private consumption to maintain its momentum in the first half of the year, boosted by a sharp drop in fuel prices in January and December. BE’s 1.4 percent real GDP forecast for 2019 assumes private consumption continues to lead growth, while capital investment also makes a positive contribution.
