Saudi Attacks Guard Outside French Consulate in Jeddah City
(Bloomberg) -- A Saudi assailant attacked a guard with a sharp object outside the French consulate in the Red Sea city of Jeddah on Thursday, according to the official Saudi Press Agency.
Authorities didn’t give a motive for the attack, which comes amid anger in the Middle East over comments on Islam by French President Emmanuel Macron.
The guard sustained minor injuries and the attacker, a man in his 40s, was apprehended, the agency said.
The French Embassy said the guard was employed by a private security company. In a statement posted on Twitter, it urged French citizens in the kingdom to exercise maximum caution.
