San Miguel Pursues Airport, Road Projects to Ease Manila Traffic

San Miguel Corp. is moving ahead with the construction of a new airport in Bulacan province north of the Philippine capital and an expressway that would decongest Metro Manila.

The airport will be operational in 2025, while a 19.4-kilometer elevated expressway along the banks of the Pasig River can be completed by 2023, the nation’s largest company said in a statement Thursday. The freeway, which will provide another access to business districts in the capital region, will cost 95.4 billion pesos, it said in a stock exchange disclosure on Friday.

San Miguel on Thursday opened its 18-kilometer elevated highway that would link two expressways north and south of Metro Manila, and which would ease traffic on the capital’s main thoroughfare by 50%, President Ramon Ang said.
