Ryanair Flight Evacuated by Police in Oslo After Bomb Threat

Norway Police Respond to Bomb Threat Against Ryanair Flight

A Ryanair flight that received a bomb threat mid-air was evacuated after landing safely in Oslo on Friday, in the second such incident for the U.K. low-cost carrier in days.

A large police squad was assisted by special forces in evacuating the passengers from the plane at the main airport outside of the Norwegian capital, police said in a tweet. Passengers were transported away from the runway in buses, and the plane will be inspected by the counter-terrorism unit and bomb squad, Norway police said.

A 51-year-old British man has been arrested by Norwegian police in connection with the incident, local media reported.

On July 13, another Ryanair jet en route from Krakow to Dublin made an emergency landing at London’s Stansted airport on what was later found to be a bomb hoax, Essex Police said on Twitter. While nothing suspicious was found on board, two men were arrested for making threats to endanger an aircraft, the police said.

Norwegian police is investigating any potential links between the two incidents, a representative for the local district in charge of Oslo’s Gardermoen airport told news agency NTB.

A spokesperson for Ryanair didn’t respond to requests for a comment.

Ryanair flight FR 1392 landed at Gardermoen at 12:25 p.m. local time, a spokeswoman for Avinor, the public Norwegian airport company, said in a phone interview. Avinor was informed of the situation at 11:50 a.m., she said. The flight had been traveling from Stansted to Oslo.

Danish fighter jets assisted the plane on its way to Oslo, the Danish Defense Command said in a tweet. The jets were refueling before returning to Denmark.
