Pro Baseball Will Allow Some Fans at Championship Games in Texas

Major League Baseball, loosening its policy after a fan-free regular season, will allow a limited number of spectators to watch championship games in Texas.

The league is making some tickets available for the National League Championship Series and the World Series, both of which will be held at Globe Life Field in Arlington. It will be the first time in modern baseball history that the World Series is held at a neutral site -- part of an effort to put a bubble around the playoffs and limit the risk of coronavirus outbreaks.

Working with the Texas Rangers, who play in Arlington, the league is making approximately 11,500 tickets available for each game, with 10,550 fans spread throughout the ballpark and 950 in suites, the league said in a statement Wednesday. The stadium normally has a capacity over 40,000.

Game 1 of the National League Championship Series on Oct. 12 will mark the first time all season that fans will be able to attend a game, excluding spring training exhibition games, which happened just before the Covid-19 pandemic put pro sports on hold.

Tickets go on sale for all games starting Oct. 6 and will be offered in groups of four contiguous seats, called “pods” by the league. Seats within those pods can’t be broken apart for sale.

Other safety protocols include mandatory masks for fans, who won’t be able to get seats within 20 feet of any player.
