Premier League Says Two-Thirds of Players Are Fully Vaccinated

The Premier League said more than two-thirds of the players of its member clubs have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.

While 81% of players have received at least one shot, 68% have been administered a complete dose, the league said in a statement Tuesday.

“Rates are collected by the Premier League on a weekly basis and the League continues to work with clubs to encourage vaccination among players and club staff,” it said. There are no plans at present to make vaccines mandatory, according to a spokesperson.

Recent reports have highlighted the reluctance of some soccer players to declare their vaccination status. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp told Sky News earlier this month that the club’s vaccination rate was 99% and that he didn’t need to convince players to take their shots.
