Philippine Covid-19 Cases Rise by Record, Data Reporting Tweaked

(Bloomberg) -- The Philippines has changed how it’s reporting coronavirus infections as daily cases hit a new record high.

The Southeast Asian nation reported 1,046 new cases on Friday, the highest since it started reporting the numbers in January. Of the total, 46 were from test results released to patients within the last three days, while 1,000 were at least four days old, according to the Department of Health.

The total number of Covid-19 cases in the Philippines rose to 16,634, the agency said.

New infections have been differentiated from cases whose validation was delayed, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said at a televised briefing hours before the release of the latest count.
