Philippines Says 2 Chinese Killed in $36 Million Drug Raid
(Bloomberg) -- Two Chinese nationals were killed in a drug raid south of the Philippine capital, which yielded 274 kilos of methamphetamine hydrochloride, locally known as shabu, worth 1.9 billion pesos ($36.4 million).
Operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, the police and military on Saturday conducted a buy-bust operation against Vincent Du Lim and Hong Li Wen, both Chinese nationals, in Cavite province south of Manila. Both suspects were killed, the drug enforcement agency said in a statement.
In October, President Rodrigo Duterte, who has led an anti-drug war that’s killed thousands of people since he took office in June 2016, said he will replace all officials at the country’s Bureau of Customs with military officers after illegal drugs worth billions of pesos slipped through the agency.
In August, authorities intercepted about 500 kilograms of illegal drugs worth 4.3 billion pesos at Manila’s port.
