Oregon Says First Coronavirus Case Result of Community Spread

(Bloomberg) -- Oregon reported its first case of coronavirus and the patient was probably infected through community spread, the state’s health official said.

The patient, from Washington County, has no known recent travel history to a country with a large virus outbreak. It was likely infected in a similar way to a case in California, Patrick Allen, director of Oregon Health Authority, said at a press conference. He declined to give details of the patient.

Governor Kate Brown said she’s set up a coronavirus response team with more active preparations. “Our state and local authorities are responding quickly to the case,” she said. “We are taking this very seriously.”
